Soroptimist-Best for Women.
What We Do

Soroptimist International of Camelback is dedicated to helping improve the lives of people through fundraising and service projects. Some of the organizations that SIC support include Boys Hope Girls Hope, Camelot Therapeutic Horsemanship, Creighton School District, Girls Ranch, Junior Achievement, Maricopa Integrated Health Systems, Murphy School District, Osborn School District, Southwest Autism Research Center, and the YMCA .

Formerly the Soroptimist Making a Difference for Women Award, the newly-named Soroptimist Ruby Award: For Women Helping Women recognizes and honors the first federation president, Ruby Lee Minar. A ruby is also a deep red gemstone associated with wisdom, importance, vitality, strength, vivacity, power and love: all words embodying the strong and compassionate women who are our award recipients. The Soroptimist Ruby Award honors women who have worked to improve the lives of women and girls through their professional and/or volunteer work. The program begins at the local-level where clubs recognize a woman in their community. Clubs submit their entry to the region-level where the region selects a woman to honor at the region conference. At the federation-level one woman is selected to receive a $5,000 donation to her favorite charitable organization.

Women's Opportunity Award: S.I. Camelback participates yearly and annually awards $2,000 to a woman who is head of the household, to assist in furthering her education. We also awarded an additional $1,000 in scholarship aid to the Women's Opportunity Winner runner-up.
Violet Richardson Award: A cash award to a 14-17 year old girl who volunteers in her community. There is also a matching donation in her name to the organization for which she volunteers.

Making a Difference for Women Award : We recognize women who are leaders in our community at an annual Commuinty Service Awards Breakfast. Saturday of Service*: Soroptimists from S.I. Camelback participate in a community service project on the first Saturday of March, as do many other Soroptimists across the nation. We chose a new project every year. Past projects include housing painting, yard clean up, bowling parties with a local group home for young girls, bringing supplies and sharing lunch with the Angel House, and promoting BODY & SOLD, a documentary play to awareness about the sexual exploitation and trafficking of American children and teens. (Soroptimist Saturday of Service is adopted world-wide by Soroptimist Clubs).
